BLACK AND WHITE 1 BIT PC
Discover all the music ever recorded with access to hundreds of internet radio stations, dozens of streaming music services, or even your own digital music library, with a few taps of the BluOS Controller app for iOS, Android, or Mac or PC computers. Also I would like to thank Michal for his efforts in any case. The Bluesound NODE unlocks the world of hi-res music streaming and multi-room audio to create a modern addition to existing HiFi systems or your favorite set of powered speakers. Therefore, I will leave the bug report open, but bump the milestone to Future and reduce the urgency.
BLACK AND WHITE 1 BIT PATCH
So the bottom line, as I see it, is that (a) we don't critically need this, even though it might be desirable in some situations (b) the patch is too complicated for what it does, and therefore creates maintainance issues.

The only thing the patch accomplishes is to turn the resulting grayscale image into an indexed image - but it does this in a very complicated way. Even without the patch, GIMP has no problem loading a packed 1-bit-grayscale png file - this is handled transparently inside libpng.

BLACK AND WHITE 1 BIT CODE
The "roll-your-own" code to do this in the patch is rather complicated and consequently a problem for maintainance.ģ) Also, the method for loading again replicates functionality from libpng. According to the manual, libpng can internally create a packed 1-bit-grayscale file if instructed to do so. In my experiments, storing a non-bw 2-bit-indexed image, with optimal compression, gives a file hardly larger, and sometimes smaller, than a corresponding 1-bit-grayscale file.Ģ) The method for saving unnecessarily replicates functionality from libpng.

With a few modifications to the patch, I was able to get the png plug-in to do those things, but here are the issues I see:ġ) There is very little benefit, space-wise. The idea of the patch is to do for png what yosh did for tiff: to store BW indexed GIMP images as 1-bit-grayscale png files, and conversely, to load 1-bit-grayscale png files as BW-indexed GIMP images. The end result is that I do not think this patch should be applied, even with fixes. I was able to spend a few hours yesterday looking at this, first fixing some bugs that prevented it from doing what it was trying to do, then trying to understand the rationale.
